Lei Liu, M. Eng.

Numerical Modeller

Lei Liu joined CARD in January 2014 as a Numerical Modeller.  She holds a B. Eng. in Naval Architecture and an M. Eng. in Ship Structural Mechanics, both from Dalian University of Technology, China. She also holds an M. Eng. in Marine Hydrodynamics from Memorial University. Her graduate research at Memorial addressed the radiation and diffraction problem in frequency domain using the panel method, simulating viscous ship flow (CFD) and computing propeller tip vortex flow (CFD). Prior to joining CARD, she worked with Oceanic Consulting Corporation, engaged in research and consulting projects that addressed marine hydrodynamics and Arctic engineering, including ship manoeuvring simulation, ship seakeeping simulation for vessel motions in wave/current/wind and developing numerical software for performance of vessel/offshore structures in Arctic environments using the Discrete Element Method (DEM). Lei’s current research focuses on numerical modelling the ice ridge gouging process using DEM for the Mechanics of Ice Rubble (MIR) project.
